First Cereal!

Mmm...mmm...mmm!!! We love the rice cereal? Not so much! This is Owen's first attempt at solid foods! He did really good for the first couple of minutes, but after a while he got pretty upset. This is the progression from the beginning to the end. His crying face says it all!

Sox game!

We went to the White Sox game on September 6. They lost, but we got to get some really cute pictures!

This one is inside US Cellular Field. This is where the Sox play. Not as nostalgic as Wrigley Field (GO CUBS) but very cool nonetheless.

Here's one of Owen enjoying the game...this was as excited as he got all game! But he got a lot of compliments on his Sox jersey!

And this one is the view in our section when we weren't checking out the game! And let's be honest, how could you pay attention to the game when you've got so much beauty sitting mere feet from you?!

Go Bears! and I need a baby sized Snuggie...

Hi there all. Owen seems to become entranced when there's a football game on tv...and since he's from Chi Town who better to cheer on than the Chicago Bears! You can't help but catch some Bear fever when you live in this city! So on behalf of Owen, Mark and me...GO BEARS!!!

Just a side note...keeping Owen all wrapped up seems to be an issue since he kicks and pushes off his blankeys. A simple solution might be a Baby-sized Snuggie?! Just look at how inconvenient this blanket is for our little Owen...he has no use of his hands...A baby Snuggie would be a genius solution! (Read this like it is an infomercial and you are really annoyed that your baby doesn't have the full use of his coverd up hands)

Finally an update

Hey there! Life gets busy once you have a little one! Mark and I have been non-stop for the last month. We were able to trade in his old truck for a new car for me (thanks to President Obama and the CARS program!) I've never owned a brand new car before...it's cute and fun. We got a Nissan Sentra, maroon, i love it! As for other new stuff...

Owen will be 3 months old this Friday! He is about 13 pounds now and still as handsome as ever! His smile lights up my entire day! I can't wait to hear his laugh! Mark and I truly did get the easiest baby so far. We are so blessed to have our little Owen! He is able to hold his head up on his own for the most part. At night when he's tired you might get an accidental headbutt from the little guy, but other than that he does great! He's been at day care for 2 1/2 weeks now and he seems to not mind it at all. He's all smiles when I go to pick him up after work, so that's good.
We did decide to use cloth diapers with him and we love them. The only issue I have with them is you have to stuff the diapers with their inserts once you've washed them. There is no quick way to do this that we have discovered as of yet, so about 3 times a week we spend an hour and a half stuffing diapers. It's a good excuse to be lazy and watch a movie or tv show though!

As for Mark, he finally got his Harley to Chicago. I went for a ride with him over the fourth of July and I had such mixed emotions about it. I was so excited about being back on the bike, but I was petrified that something would happen to us (like a deadly accident) and Owen would never remember meeting us. To say the least it was quite difficult to just let loose and enjoy the moment.

I am back to work. It's nice to be among adults, but the trade-off sucks. I wish I could bring Owen to work with me so I wouldn't have to be away from him during the day. I really need to start working out so I can drop this weight! My weightloss has plateaued out. I have been holding steady at 15 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight. So Tae Bo here I come!

Here are some pics of Owen over the last 2 months.

The cute little yawn is at about 1 1/2 months. Thanks for the cute gigglesaurus outfit Aunt Lindsea!

Here Owen is talking to me. He's 11 weeks old in this one!

This one is when he's 10 weeks. This is what he does when I sing to him. He smiles so big and lets out these little bursts of happiness! It's the most wonderful sound in the world!

And this last one is from the day he had his 2 month check up. He had shots that really made his leg sore...poor little guy! This is the only position he would be able to sleep in. Those screams of pain were the worst thing I have had to deal with so far! It made me so sad!

going private...

So here's the deal...I've never seen whatever it is Oprah says about privatizing a blog, but it seems pretty serious especially when there are kids involved. So my sisters have both made their blogs private and they are coming out this weekend. I'm going to have them help me make my blog private. Anything I can do to protect my Owen I will happily do! If you want to have access to my blog give me your email so I can put you on my list of approved people! If you don't want to leave your email in the comments feel free to email me at stacylmathews@yahoo.com.

Thanks!!!

Owen Keith Mathews has joined the family!

In case you haven't heard our precious Owen came into the world at 5:37 PM on May 7. He weighed 6 lb 8 oz and he was 20 inches long. He is perfection. I love him more than anything. I can't get enough of his cute little face. He is the best cuddler. I want to enjoy every second of this part before he moves into the next phase of his babyhood. Here are some pics of the little man. I hope you enjoy them...

And the dialation begins...

So I had my first weekly internal exam today. I can honestly say that I've never been excited to have a woman poke around in me until this morning...I just wanted to know if there was any forward progress for this little man's welcome into the world. And low and behold I am just over one centimeter dialated! WOO HOO! The doc said we should go into labor in two to three weeks. So everyone get excited for the day there is a new little Mathews! I know Mark and I can't wait.

Last ultrasound before we welcome our little man into the world

So I went in last Thursday for my final ultrasound before this little one comes into the world. Most of you have already heard my gushing about this so there may be some repetition for you guys...but for those that I haven't talked to here goes...

As of last Thursday he is 4 lb 12 oz. Apparently they are supposed to gain 3 pounds in the last 6 weeks. That would make our guy 7 lb 12 oz to 8 lb when he is born. YIKES! Hopefully he is on the smaller end of that scale. His belly measured about 5 days older than he was and his head measured 5 days younger than he is. So he's got a small head and a big bellers! I prefer this order than a big head and a small tummy! The doctor said he is head-down now and we're just waiting for the days to pass by until he comes into this world. I got a great pic of his nose, mouth and chin (he was covering his eyes with his arm) that makes me want to cry! It's adorable!!! He let out the biggest yawn when the ultrasound tech was trying to get him to move his arm. SO CUTE!!!

We're also moving in 2 weekends. I'm not excited about the actual moving part of moving...but I am pumped for the new place! Why can't your stuff just follow you and set itself up in your new home instead of you having to do all of the packing and unpacking, cleaning, lifting, driving...blah, blah, blah! I can't stand moving! It's easily one of my least favorite things...only things like cucumbers and celery come close.

And with all of these changes on the horizon my biggest concern is that I don't have an outfit to bring home my son home from the hospital in. I feel a ton of pressure from myself to get this taken care of, even though it is not the most important thing to do at this point. I'm also concerned that when I go to pick the fam up at the airport that he won't have a cute outfit for that day either. The things I worry about! I'm rolling my eyes at myself!

The baby bump...

Here are a couple pics of the bellers at 32 weeks. I can't believe it's supposed to get bigger than this!

Eating at Patty's!!!

This was easily the most exciting part of our St. Patrick's Weekend! We went to this burger joint in downtown Chicago (aka "The Loop"). The burger joint is called "Patty Burger" and I loved it. The food was greasy and good. The feel of the place was this kick-back to the 50's. It was retro orange and silver with all of the posters of pin-up girls. It was awesome! Not to mention the name! I hope Patti sees this and she smiles! Here are my pics of the wonder of Patty Burger's!

Auto show

We went to the Auto Show about a month ago and we saw all of the new cars coming out. Plus we saw a life-sized model of Bumble-Bee...the yellow car from the Transformers movie. Very cool stuff. Mark was for sure more excited about being there than I was, but it was cool nonetheless. Enjoy the pics.

Here is the Ferrari California...very cool. This was one of the few display models that they wouldn't allow anyone to sit in...and they took it one step further and you couldn't even go within 15 feet of it.
This is either a '57 or a '63 Corvette. It was one of about 20 older model cars there. Very interesting to see what the image of style was then compared to what it is now.

This was a new Mercedes model. I'm not too sure what the model was...but it retails for $500,000. Another one of the display models you couldn't sit in.

This is the new Corvette. Crazy how they have come in 50ish years!!!

And here is Bumble-Bee. Big and impressive. I love that movie. Too bad he wasn't robotic too! I would have totally asked for an autograph.

St Patrick's day parade

We went to the St. Patrick's Day parade in downtown Chicago on the 15th...it was the oddest parade I've ever been to. It's just like a small-town parade in a huge city. There were about eleventy-billion "floats" where it was just random local groups that the majority of people there have never heard of. It was truly a sight. We took a few pictures of the fun stuff...and here they are for your enjoyment. Although I will say the best part of the parade was there was Bozo the Clown on one of the floats! How cool is that?!?!

Here is Ronald McDonald and his rediculously big inflatable shoe.
HERE'S BOZO!!! HOW UNREAL IS THIS?!?!

An actual roaring dino. It was super crazy.

Mmmm...mmmm...mmmm. Beer.

A crazy green man. No clue what the purpose of him is, but he was all green.
